We are about to publish our new set of events at the award winning Kielder Observatory.

We are continually mindfull of trying to fulfill the demand placed upon us for more exciting events and engaging speakers.

This next quarter sees some exciting times ahead at the Observatory. From speakers talking about worm holes and how probable time travel is...to the evolution of the Universe. Also we see some awe inspiring natural phenomena in our skies.... After the Summer solstice and towards the end of July, the skies will get steadily darker with the sun on its path south, so that our northerly latitudes start to welcome back the summer star fields of the Milky way. The constellation of Cygnus the swan, flying high overhead as if ushering in the new season of dark nights; twists and knots of absorption nebulae litter this part of the sky hiding vast panoramas of stars; clusters of stars huddle together to excite the mind and induce wonder at the majesty of the universe we live in and are a part of. Here at the Kielder Observatory we hope to unravel it all for you and introduce you to the cosmos from Englands darkest sky location free from any light pollution.

In August the Perseid meteor shower, with rates of around 60 per hour, should be quite a sight - this year it falls at a time with no moon in the sky at all so that it will be as dark as it can be. We cannot of course guarantee any at all! but there are a lot of astronomers getting quite excited about this years shower, so come along with a flask and a chair and sit on our observing deck, using our binoculars to scan the Milky Way and wait for the shooting stars to come along...

All events we hold include a talk in our purpose built classroom, then off we go on a tour of the facility and later when darkness falls, we observe the night sky through the telescopes under expert guidance. Please check the calendar section to see if there is an event you would like to come along to, all booking instructions will appear there shortly.
