The observatory is run by a very small group of volunteers. These volunteers hold down "normal" jobs during the week and help with the observatory as and when they can during the weekends. Most live many miles away so can only make it to the observatory once and a while (I for example live near Bridlington on the east coast a 4 hour drive away). This involves maintenance of the facility, organising events and other tasks such as the star camps which take place periodically.
All of the volunteers are amateur astronomers and as such are keen hobbyists who have a wealth of knowledge about the night sky and the universe in general.
