Streaky Bacon: Kielder's role the space race
|

The Blue Streak rocket engine was tested in the western area of the forest on a special launch pad, still intact and now a scheduled monument. The supposedly top secret project - which developed from an ICBM to the world's most reliable first stage rocket - was lovingly dubbed by locals as streaky bacon.
